Free Domain Name Contest Part VI: FREE .INFO DOMAIN OF YOUR CHOICE!

Still waiting for Bill Futreal to claim his free .INFO domain name. Where are you, Bill? Don't you want your free name?

Anyway, the show must go on!

This week's giveaway is identical to last week's: the prize is a free, one (1) year registration of a .INFO domain name of your choosing, registered at eNom (free transfer of ownership!) Whoever wins this contest pays absolutely nothing for the free .INFO domain name until it comes up for renewal next year.

As usual, anyone and everyone--except previous free domain name contest winners--can participate in this contest.

How can you enter to win a free .INFO domain name of your choice? To enter this contest:
  1. Click Here to vote in one or more of our polls.

  2. Pick a number between 1 and 42.

  3. Post a comment to this post with a sentence clearly communicating your interest in this contest and include the number you have picked. You also need to let me know which poll you voted in.

  4. The winning number will be the winning red Powerball number at next Saturday's (July 2, 2005) Powerball drawing. Simply stop by the Powerball website next Saturday night (or Sunday morning) to see what the winning red Powerball number is for July 2, 2005. Whoever guesses the correct number--or whoever gets closest to the correct number--wins! If 2 or more contestants are equally close to the Saturday, July 2, 2005 winning red Powerball number then the person who is closest to the Wednesday, June 29, 2005 winning red Powerball number shall be declared the winner of the runoff.

To be fair to everyone, previous contest winners are ineligible to participate in this and any future free domain name giveaways. Also, I will not contact you if you win. If you are the winner of this week's free domain name, you need to check back at this website in order to claim your free domain name.

Don't forget to click here to vote in one or more of our polls. That's all I ask in return for this opportunity to win a free domain name. Thanks!

The deadline for submitting your number is Saturday, July 2, 2005 @ 6:00pm (EST.)

Thanks in advance for participating in the latest free domain name contest and good luck to all!

.JOBS: A Very Exclusive Club!

If you've been thinking about buying a .JOBS domain name, you'd better own a large company with deep pockets. Lots of restrictions, and very expensive to own (a company can register a .JOBS name @ eNom for $125 per year [!] and a they'd also have to pay a non-refundable $50 application fee.)

This TLD (or extension) is supposed to make it easier for jobs seekers to locate career information, job listings, etc. provided by a particular company's human resources department.

The Society for Human Resource Management--the folks who are sponsoring the .JOBS namespace--had better have a large budget for public relations and marketing; they need to get the word out about this new extension, or else it will end up being a complete waste of time. They'll need to make a concerted effort to educate the public about the TLD, or else job seekers will continue to visit a company's main website to obtain career related information.

Another thing to consider: with all the phishing scams out there, the average job seeker might think that a website or email address that has a prominent company's name attached to a .JOBS extension is related to some sort of phishing scam. Not good.

So all the best to the .JOBS namespace from the Domain Blog!

Got Poker?

I have a couple of simple free poker sites running, e.g. www.InternetPoker.cc. I'm noticing a lot more traffic to my poker domains this year, obviously a result of the online poker phenomenon that has taken hold on just about every continent on the planet. Who could imagine that a simple card game born on Mississippi steamboats could become so popular? Online poker easily trumps online blackjack, roulette and all the other familiar casino games you know about, earning many millions of dollars for the owners of popular online poker sites.

So, should I have been surprised to read today that PartyGaming, the company that owns a certain "Party Poker" website, has been valued @ 10 billion dollars? 10 billion dollars? Wow! Now that's a lot of people playing poker! The company makes about a million dollars per day by taking a small cut of the winning "pot" from the online poker games they host; 1-2% is all it takes to generate the huge profits they are making.

Click here to read the full story.

Click here to play free poker at my newly insecure free poker site.

Help Determine The Fate of The Free Domain Name Contest

Hi All:

I think the free domain name giveaway needs to take a slightly different direction going forward, but I am open to comments from anyone and everyone as to how the contest should evolve. So the question is: what I should offer next? Should the domain name www.FixMyBody.net be offered in the next free domain name giveaway, or should I offer a one (1) year registration of the .INFO domain name of your choice? Post a comment with your preference. Thanks!

.XXX Approved

Looks like the .XXX has been approved by ICANN.

This is actually good news for opponents of Internet porn since sites with a .XXX extension will be much, much easier to detect and block; it's quite a simple matter to instruct blocking software to block any and all websites that end in .XXX.
